Scratching the Seasons: Making Illustrated Shadow Boxes with illustrator Claudia McGehee
Suggested age 7+: Author/illustrator Claudia McGehee’s picture book worlds are populated with woodland and prairie animals of all furs and feathers. Bobcats peer behind burr oaks! Fox track through tallgrass! Cardinals sing from sycamore trees! Claudia celebrates the four seasons that we know here so well in Iowa. Her art medium, called scratchboard, uniquely captures the spirit and detail in our natural world. Join Claudia to create your own three-dimensional scratchboard nature shadow boxes. Recycled boxes, scratchboard and other materials will be provided; you bring a love of nature and your imagination! After an introduction to the art of scratchboard and a reading of one of her picture books, Claudia will guide attendees in making a tallgrass or woodland shadow box, with a fall or winter season setting of your choice!
